CUTTING
TOOL
The
Westerton electric cutting tool is designed
to cut single strings of casing, tubing
or drillpipe. The cutter features a single
blade which is driven by a downhole electric
motor for controlled, smooth efficient
cutting. A real time surface read out
monitors the cut and signals when the
operation is complete. A unique six point
anchoring system ensures that the cutter
remains stationary during the cut out
period.
Operation
The
Westerton electric cutting tool is run
on either mono conductor or seven strand
Hepta Logging cable. After the surface
operational checks are complete the tool
is lowered on the electric cable to the
cutting depth. Calibration of the depth
can be confirmed using either a Passive
CCL or the on board Active CCL. When
the desired depth is obtained an electric
current activates the anchoring system
which locks the tool in place. The power
is then fed to the cutting motor and
the cut is initiated by the blade from
the revolving nose cone. Constant monitoring
on surface keeps the operator informed
of blade position, rpm and feed rate.
When the cut is complete the blade is
retracted into the nose cone and the
anchor system relaxes. Straight pick
up is all that is required to recover
the tool to surface.
